Tips to Spruce up Your Living Room

Tips to Spruce up Your Living Room

I was sitting in my den the other day only to realize that while it’s my favorite room in the house because of its coziness, it is in need of an update. I don’t have a lot of money to spend making over different rooms of the house and as a few of my readers know, since I currently live with my parents, I don’t think my mom would like me painting the kitchen, living room and den “just because.” What I can do is revamp what I have and add in a few inexpensive items to suddenly have a den that looks brand new. Here’s my game plan that you are welcome to use as your own.

1. Remove everything from the room. A blank slate allows for a fresh perspective.

2. Dust all the walls and (approval pending) remove wall border and paint a light, bright color.

3. Bring back in only what I must have. I read a lot, so for me that includes my bookcase, TV, couch, chair and two side tables.

4. Accessorize. With a couple of slip covers, fresh pillows, two matching lamps and a rug, the room will start to look pulled together. Add in a throw blanket and some photos from my own collection in matching frames and I am set. And with everything available at thrift stores, discount stores and sales rack of department stores, I can create a fresh look without breaking the bank.

From me to you, I have killer thrifty skills. When I had my own place, I never paid full price for accessories until full price was less than $10. (Needless to say, I redecorated a lot.) I honestly believe this redo will cost me no more than $150 and that is only because I would require paint, two slipcovers and a rug.
