Spring Time Tips
Spring Time Tips
Spring has sprung in the Port City dear readers and I for one am glad! Cold temps do nothing for me and right now I can enjoy the low humidity days without freezing my toes off. Now that you can open your windows and let the warm gentle breezes in (as I have done), here are a few tips straight from yours truly on how to bring a little Spring into your life.
Lighten up. Switch out heavy drapes for lightweight sheer curtains. These brighten up any room and allow the fresh air to pass easily into your home.
Add some color. Buy or snipe fresh flowers and place them in vases, old glass bottles or even a nice water pitcher to add some life to your kitchen table or foyer.
Freshen up with paint. With the windows open and humidity low, now is the perfect time to spruce up your walls with a fresh coat of paint. Rent and can’t paint? Paint a bookcase or end table a nice complimentary or contrasting color.
Dust often. Pollen is a necessary evil if you want plant life to grow. If you keep your windows open, be sure to dust often or your home will take on a nice yellow hue.
Plant a garden. Whether it’s a container garden, raised bed garden or deep down in the dirt garden, flex your green thumb and grow some beautiful flower or fresh herbs. Both smell great and bring some green to a window sill or yard. (Just be sure to wear sunscreen while outside.)
Create an edible centerpiece. Stop by one of the many farmers’ markets that are quickly opening back up for the season and buy some fresh fruits and veggies. Arrange the pieces in a beautiful bowl and help yourself to a healthy and pretty snack anytime. (I am partial to an antique green bowl I have with lemons, oranges and bananas overflowing, but any color, including clear glass, and any fruit/vegetable will work great).
Grill out. While at the farmers’ market, pick up some grill-able veggies and meat then fire it up. Beer (or soda) can chicken with freshly grilled corn on the cob or zucchini are a match made in taste heaven.
These are just a few of my simple tips to bring a little Spring into your life after a cold Winter. Have some of your own? Feel free to post them in the comments section for everyone to enjoy!
