Moving Checklist

Moving Checklist:

1. Give notice to landlord if renting
2. Contact all companies you do business with & provide new address
3. Contact all health care providers to get your medical records if you are moving to a new area
4. Deliver your medical records to your new health care providers
5. Contact telephone company and arrange for service & get new telephone number
6. Contact family & friends and provide new address and telephone number
7. Contact home insurance company for old address & terminate policy
8. Contact home insurance company for new address & arrange for appropriate amount of coverage
9. Contact car/boat/RV insurance company and change address
10. Go to DMV and change address for self and all vehicles
11. Go to Board of Elections and change address
12. Go to Post Office and submit change of address to forward mail
13. Change address for all financial, medical & insurance benefits
14. Change address at your job
15. Reserve moving truck, pads & related equipment or contact moving company after selecting move date
16. Decide on how pets are to be moved
17. Arrange for family/friends to help with move
18. Get marking pens, labels, colored dots, boxes, tape and moving blankets
19. Contact cable/satellite company at new address & start service
20. Contact cable/satellite company at old address & discontinue service
21. Contact electric company at new address & start service
22. Contact electric company at old address & discontinue service
23. Contact gas company at new address & start service
24. Contact gas company at old address & discontinue service
25. Contact newspaper company at new address & start service
26. Contact newspaper company at old address & discontinue service
27. Contact telephone company and start service at your new address
28. Contact telephone company and discontinue service at your old address
29. Contact trash company at new address & start service
30. Contact trash company at old address & discontinue service
31. Contact water company at new address & start service
32. Contact water company at old address & discontinue service
33. Label boxes with room/location of where belongings are to be placed, color code with label dots, number etc. to assist movers. At new location place colored dots/numbers on doors to where boxes/belongings are to go
34. Clean (or arrange for cleaning) of home you are leaving. Clean carpets at new property or old property before as required
35. Paint or touch up paint as required
36. Keep enough clothing, medicines, health aides, and beauty aids set aside, so if all your belongings don't arrive quickly (or you can't find the box), you won't have to purchase replacements.
